What is Somatic pain?
Localised pain that can be found from muscle, skin or joint and is caused by activation of nociceptors in surface tissue
List the 4 types of pain.
- acute pain
- Chronic pain
- somatic pain
- Neuropathic pain
What is visceral pain?
Visceral pain is caused by the activation nociceptors in the viscera. This can be due to onfection, compression or tumours
What is Neuropathic pain?
Pain that arises from nerve injury or pathology.
What is Chronic pain?
Chronic pain is consistently referred to as ‘persistent pain’. Generally pain that has persisted for more than 3 months despite medical intervention.
What is Acute pain?
Acute pain is the simple relationship to tissue damage and nociception.
What is the goal of pain management?
The goal is to implement pain management with the least amount of potency of medication, and the highest level of patient consciousness.
