Pain Flashcards
What is transduction?
The stimulation of the nociceptors.
Located in skin and joints that respond to any type of damage. Or potential damage.
What is transmission?
When nerve fibres enter the spine through the substantial gelatinous and ascend to the brain.
What is perception?
When information reaches the brain. The somatosensory cortex locates the pain and the frontal lobe gives it meaning.
Where is Cox 1 mainly found?
Most body tissues
Where is Cox 2 found?
Undetectable in most body tissues until inflammation occurs.
Where my opioid receptor found?
Thalmus and dorsal horn
Where’s kappa opioid receptor found?
Hypothalamus
Where’s the delta opioid receptor found ?
Brain stem and brain cortex.
What are the 3 major actions of Opioids?
- To relieve pain
- Reduce anxiety
- Induce sleep even in severe pain
What are the bodies endogenous Opioids?
Endorphins
enkephalins
Name the Opioid receptors?
Mu
Kappa
Delta
sigma
What receptor do most Opioid Analgesia act on?
Mu Receptor agonist
Where is kappa receptor site?
Hypothalamus
Where is Delta receptor site?
Brainstem and cortex
Where is mu receptor site?
Thalamus?
Name three neuropathic analgesia
Amitriptyline
Nortriptyline
Duloxetine
How do Neuropathic Analgesia work?
Increasing inhibition of spinal cord dorsal horn by affecting levels of serotonin and noradrenaline
Elevate mood and helps sleep patterns
