What is acute pain?
Sudden recent pain precipitated by injury and goes away with time

This can be acute, chronic , or both and is caused by a tumor invading tissue
What is neuropathic pain? What is an example?
This type of pain involves dysfunction of nerves. Example is diabetic neuropathy, phantom limb
What is breakthrough pain?
This is pain that spikes beyond the baseline set with analgesic use
What is incident pain?
This is pain that is ccaused by activity related to movement
What are the effects of acute pain?
It can be affect the functioning of cardiac, respiratory, endocrine and immune system
What are some effects of chronic pain?
Depression, increased disability, suppression of immune system
What are pharmacological interventions for pain?
Opioids, NSAIDs, Loacal anesthesia
What are some side effects of opioids?
Respiratory depression, constipation, nausea and vomiting
What are some non-opioid treatments for pain?
Acetaminophen, NSAIDs, baclofen, cyclobenzaprine, gabapentin for neuropathic pain
