4 factors that affect body composition
- age
- genes
- hormones
- gender
measures the thickness of the subcutaneous fat, these are found underneath the skin at certain body parts
skinfold caliper
the estimated body fat based on height and weight of a person
body mass index
measures the circumference of a specific body part/s for body fat estimation
body circumference measurements
method which requires the person to be submerged in water after exhaling as much air as possible
hydrostatic weighing
ratio of your waist circumference as against your hip circumference. It is calculated by dividing the waist circumference with the hip circumference
Waist-to-hip ratio
Ability of an individual to shift from one direction or position with ease and comfort
agility
ability of an individual to sustain equilibrium or in an upright position while standing or moving
balance
the harmonious relationship of movement between the skeletal muscles
coordination
ability to perform one explosive effort in a small amount of time
power
ability to move from one point to another in a small amount of time
speed
amount of time it takes to move to an external stimulus
reaction time
3 fundamental body movement
Locomotor, nonlocomotor, manipulative
exercises or movement performed while moving from one place to another
locomotor movements
2 categories of locomotor movement
even and uneven rhythm
Locomotor movement that consists of normal and steady actions
even rhythms
What category of locomotor movement are these:
walking, running, jumping, hopping, leaping
even rhythm
locomotor movement that consists of unequal actions and sometimes incorporate alternative actions
uneven rhythm
What category of locomotor movement are these:
skipping, galloping, sliding
uneven rhythm
exercises or movements performed while in a stationary position
non-locomotor movements
what type of movement are these:
bending or flexing, stretching/extending/straightening, lifting or raising, twisting, swaying, swinging, rotating or turning, shaking, wiggling
non-locomotor movements
This ensures the spine is in neutral position and making the abdominal muscles deeper as much as possible when we inhale, followed by exhaling process
bracing the core
- This is like positioning your body similar to a typical “dead bug”
- exercise that makes one’s core or abdominal muscles stronger while the back or spinal cord is at rest and not putting strain on it
- advisable than crunches
dead bug
- similar to dead bug which expands the abdominal muscles
- unlike dead bug, it is facing the floor, copying a dog stance and raising the leg
