Page 1 Flashcards
When is an instrument rating required?
When acting as PIC under IFR or in weather conditions less than prescribed for VFR.
(§61.3)
When is an instrument rating required for carrying passengers?
When carrying passengers for compensation or hire on cross-country flights in excess of 50 NM or at night.
(§61.133)
When is an instrument rating required for Class A airspace?
For flight in Class A airspace.
(§91.135)
When is an instrument rating required for Special VFR?
For Special VFR between sunset and sunrise.
(§91.157)
Who may log instrument time?
A person may log instrument time only for that flight time when the person operates the aircraft solely by reference to instruments under actual or simulated instrument flight conditions.
What is the minimum aeronautical experience for an airplane instrument rating?
50 hours X-Country PIC time, of which 10 hours in airplanes.
What is the required instrument time for an airplane instrument rating?
40 hours actual or simulated instrument time, of which 15 hours with CFII.
What is required for the cross-country flight for instrument rating?
Including one X-Country flight of 250 NM along airways or by directed ATC routing, an instrument approach at each airport, and 3 different kinds of approaches using navigation systems.
What is the recency of experience requirement to act as PIC?
A flight review is required since the beginning of the 24 calendar months before the month of the flight in an aircraft for which the pilot is rated.
What does the flight review consist of?
Minimum 1 hour of flight training and 1 hour ground training, conducted by an authorized instructor.
What can substitute a flight review?
A proficiency check or practical pilot test for a pilot certificate, rating, or operating privilege.
What is required to carry passengers as PIC?
3 takeoffs & landings in category, class, and type (if type rating required) in the last 90 days.
What is required for night takeoffs and landings?
3 takeoffs & landings to a full stop within 1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise.
What is the requirement for IFR currency?
Within 6 calendar months preceding the month of flight: 6 instrument approaches, holding procedures & tasks, and intercepting & tracking courses.
What if no ‘6 HITS’ are logged in the last six months?
You have an additional 6 months to regain currency by performing the ‘6 HITS’ with a safety pilot.
