What is the PEWS scoring? What are its section?
Peadiatric Early Warning System, split into behavouir, cardiovascular and respiratory
Two Types of Main Causes of Paediatric Arrests

Circulation - Dehydration, sepsis, burns (leading to shock)
Cardiac Arrest Ryhtm Split
90% are PEA and Asystole
10% are VF/VT
4 Stages of Choking Alogrithm
- Effective Coughing - able to vocalise and cry, loud cough, able to breath in between coughs, responsive
- Ineffective Cough - can’t vocalise, silent cough, unable to breath, cyanosis, decreasing levels of consciousness
- Conscious - x5 back blows then x5 chest thrusts
- Unconscious - move to BLS algorithm
A and B in BLS
A irway - asses airway for obstruction, only suction if you can see foreign body, otherwise inflame airway. Put child into neutral spine position. Lay FLAT, do not lift chin if Infant >1.
B reathing - start with 5 breaths

BLS
x5 Rescue breaths
Asses rhythm - shock/non-shock
15:2 breaths
Rhythm check after 2 minutes
What do do/not do with Placenta at Birth
- If placenta is pulsating, don’t cut it
- In an emergency you can ‘milk the chord’ to give rush of blood to the baby
Triangle of Paeds in for Neonatal
- White/floppy is bad
- Blue but good muscle tone is fine
- Look for tone, colour, breathing and heart rate
What to do when Baby is Born
- Rub/stimulate chest and head, don’t be afraid to press down
- Completely dry baby, do not wrap in wet towel
