PAEDS GA Flashcards
Children who require GA once will probably require GA ___?
Another time
Tx planning for childen under GA should be?
More aggressive and treatment outcomes should be predictable
Why is repeat GA not preferred
Morbidity, potential mortality, cost, behavioral/emotional effects on child
What are the issues for emergency GA?
Must address the presenting complaint, extract unrestorable asymptomatic teeth. However will usually require another GA
Why is tx planning important for children going under GA?
Aggressive tx plans are required to prevent repeat GA. Predictable tx outcomes are important
Factors to consider when choosing restorative materials for GA children?
- Age of child (time left for tooth exfoliation)
- Extent of caries
- Caries risk and potential for OH maintenance by child
A restoration under GA when compared to a restoration under LA should be?
More durable and longer lasting to prevent repeat GA. Especially in very young children
Why cant you do pulpectomies in childen under GA?
Success outcomes are unpredictable, if it fails it may require repeat GA treatment
Paeds molar restoration considerations?
If ≤ 2 surfaces are involved and tooth is due to exfoliate in less than 3 years: choose CR/GIC/amalgam restorative material
If ≥ 2 surfaces involved or tooth is due to exfoliate in ≥ 3 years restore with conventional SSC.
Why is SSC good for restoration?
- Cheap
- Provide full coverage
- More durable material
- SSC preferred following pulpotomies
Halls crown in paeds under GA?
NO
LA use when paeds pt is under GA?
LA should be used in conjunction with all treatments (cons and exo) under GA, after consulting with the anaesthetist.
From what age can varnish be used on kids?
What is the dosage for varnish?
From 12 months of age
0.25mL for deciduous teeth, 0.4mL mixed dentition, 0.7mL for permanent dentition
Incidence of repeat GA at RDHM 2010?
8.4% incidence of repeat GA
Average time between GA
1.4 years
