what is measles?
A
RUBEOLA, highly infectious viral illness,
droplet/airborne spread- coughing, sneezing,
preventable by vaccine
can be deadly

signs and symptoms??
A
high fever rash not feeding properly dehydrated cough runny nose red watery eyes fatigue

how long is the incubation period? infectious?
A
incubation= 7-18 days infectious= 10 days

complications that can occur
A
ear infections- can lead to hearing loss diarrhoea blindness pneumonia seizures

how do we confirm/diagnose measles?
A
detection of igM antibody
- serum blood result
- +ve RNA by respiratory specimen

prevention of measles?
A
immunisation at 15 months and 4 years
isolation if someone has measles

what are some barriers to effective immunisation?
A
stigma
barriers to access- transport, time off work, cost
info access
parents choosing not to vaccinate- antivaxers
safety concerns
