body fluid, connective tissue. made up of PLASMA (55%) AND BLOOD CELLS (45%)

what are the 4 components of haemostasis?
A
- vascular response
- platelet plug formation
- development of a fibrin clot
- lysis of a clot

what are some common bleeding disorders?
A
most common: von willebrands disease, haemophilia A & B.
some disorders may develop as a result of medical conditions: thrombocytopenia, vit k deficiency, disseminated intravascular coagulation.

what is thrombocytopenia?
A
platelet count below 150 billion platelets per litre of blood.
may be due to reduced platelet production or increased rate of destruction
