tongue is large in relation to mouth structure

limited liver enzyme function until 5 weeks - slowered drug metabolism
renal excretion of drug is limited until 8 weeks - slower drug excretion
thermoregulatory system
lack ability to shiver ato compensate for decreasing body temp
risk of drug overdose anaesthetic concern
faster drug uptake due to BBB permeability
slower drug metabolism and excretion
pain management
opioids preferred
