What do you look for in the childs appearance?
Tone, interactiveness, Gaze, Cry, Consolobilty
What makes up work of breathing?
Positioning, Breath sounds, retractions, nasal flaring
What mainly causes cardiac arrest in infants?
Respiratory failure/ distress
What is respiratory failure?
Inadequte movement of gas in and out of the lungs. Loss of ability to maintain adequete blood levels of co2 and 02.
Can respiratory failure happen without respiratory distress?
Yes
What is respiratory distress?
Clinical state with increased work of breathing e,g croup
Define minute volume
How much is breathed in and out per minute
What is the formula for minute volume?
Tidal Volume x resp rate
What does TICLS stand for?
Tone, Interactivness, consolobilty, look or gaze, speech or cry
When assessing breathing what do we look for?
Rate, recession, accessory muscles, head bobbing, flared nostrils, additional sounds, exhaustion and anxious demeanour.
