P9 Motion Flashcards
Equation for speed
V= s/t
Velocity/ speed = distance/ time
In distance- time graph what does a horizontal line mean, and a constant straight slope upwards.
Stationary
Moving at a constant speed
What does the gradient in a distance- time graph represent?
The velocity/ speed
Def velocity
Is speed in a given direction
Vector quantity
Has a direction and a magnitude
Scalar quantity
Has a magnitude only
Equation for acceleration:
a= delta V / t Acceleration = change in velocity / time
What’s decleration
They change of velocity per second as an object slows down
How can we measure velocity change?
Use a motion sensor linked to a computer
What does the gradient in a velocity- time graph represent?
Acceleration
How do you find the distance travelled from a velocity time graph
Area under the graph
Horizontal line on a velocity- time graph mean?
Acceleration us zero (travelling at a constant speed)
What does a positive gardient/ negative gradient on a velocity time graph represent
Positive acceleration/ decleration
How do you find the speed, at any instant in time of an object moving at changing speed
Through the gradient of a tangent to the line
Equation for uniform (constant) acceleration:
v squared - u squared = 2as
