P7 Page 6 Flashcards
How do you work out the focal point of a concave mirror?
The focal point of a concave mirror is the halfway distance between the vertex and the centre of curvature.
What is a concave mirror?
Concave mirrors are shiny inside the curve, parallel rays if light reflect and converge when hitting the mirror.
What two lenses is a simple telescope made from?
An objective lens-Collects all the light and converges it to a focal point, forming an image of it.
Eyepiece lens-magnifies the image so we can view it.
What factors are needed for the two lenses to magnify the image?
Both lens’s must be aligned to have the same principal axis and placed so that their focal points are at the same place.
Magnification=
Focal length of objective lens(Fo)
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Focal length of eye lens(Fe)
How do find the vertex of a concave mirror?
The centre of the mirrors surface.
How do find the centre of curvature on a concave mirror?
Concave mirrors are like a portion of a sphere, so the centre of sphere is the centre of curvature.
