P7- Magnetism And Electromagnetism Flashcards
What do magnets produce?
Magnetic fields.
What do all magnets have?
Poles. North and south.
What is a magnetic field?
A region where other magnets or magnetic materials experience a non-contact force.
Describe the force between a magnet and a magnetic material?
Is always attractive, no matter the pole.
Describe what happens if two poles of a magnet are put near each other?
They will exert a force on each other. This force can be attractive or repulsive. Two poles that are the same will repel. Two that are opposite will attract.
What do compasses show?
The directions of the magnetic fields.
What are the two types of magnets called?
Permanent or induced.
What are permanent magnets?
Magnets that produce their own magnetic field.
What are induced magnets?
Are magnetic materials that turn into a magnet when they’re put into a magnetic field.
What does a moving charge create?
A magnetic field.
