P5- newton laws Flashcards
what is a resultant force?
overall force, sum of all forces
what happens to an object with a resultant force?
accelerate in the direction of the resultant force
what if there is no resultant force?
stationionary or accelerating at a constant speed if it was moving prior
what is free fall process?
object falls, weight acts downwards, air resistance/ drag upwards
weight of free fall is constant. the faster an object is travelling, the greater the force drag will be.
what is Newtons first Law
an object remains in the same state of motion unless a
resultant force
acts on it. If the resultant force on an object is zero, this means:
a stationary object stays stationary
a moving object continues to move at the same
velocity
(at the same speed and in the same direction)
What is Newtons second Law?
If a resultant force acts on an object, the object will accelerate or decelerate in the direction of the resultant force. If there is no resultant force acting on an object, object remain stationary or move at a constant speed in same direction.
“resultant force acting on an object is directly proportional to it’s acceleration” ( F= M x A)
What is Newtons third law?
whenever two objects interact, they exert equal and opposite forces on each other.
