The strange situation may be a culturally biased tool. Rothbaum argured that attatchment theory is not relevant to other cultures because it is so rooted in American culture.

What did rothbaum say about caregiver sensitivity?
A
He said that caregiver sensitivity is different in America and Japan. In Japan, sensitivity is about promoting dependence rather than independence. Babies never leave their mother’s side which explains the high levels of resistant behaviour in Takahashi’s study.
