P2- Takahashi Study Flashcards
What did Takahashi’s study demonstrate?
Another study conducted by Takahashi demonstrated differences between cultures when the strange situation was used.
Who was observed and what were the findings?
60 middle-class 1 year-old Japanese infants and their mothers were observed in the strange situation it was found that 68% of infants were classified as securely attatched, 32% at insecure-resistant, none were classified as insecure-avoidant. The resistant infants were extremely distressed when left alone. This cultural variation can be explained in terms of different child care practices.
In Japan, infants rarely…
In Japan, infants rarely experience seperation from their mothers, which could explain why they were more distressed than the American counterparts. There are cross cultural differences in the way infants respond to seperation.
