P3.1 Static and charge Flashcards
What charge is an atom overall?
Neutral
What happens if you rub two insulators together?
You can transfer electrons from one insulator to another
Where do positive charges move?
They do not move
What is static electricity
The buildup of electric charge on the surface of objects. This occurs when electrons are transferred from one material to another
If you rub a acetate rod on a cloth what happens to the electrons?
They leave the rod and move to the cloth. This creates a positive rod and negative cloth
If you rub a polythene rod on a cloth, what happens?
The electrons move from the cloth to the rod, making the rod negatively charged and the rod positive
What is a spark?
Flow of charge or current through the air
What does current mean?
Flow of charged particles
Which way does current flow?
The direction of electron current goes in the direction of the positive terminal of the battery to the negative terminal
