P.1.2 State changes Flashcards
What does density tell you?
How much mass there is in a certain volume
What is the conservation of mass?
Mass can nor be created or destroyed
What does temperature tell you?
How hot or cold something is and the average kenetic energy of the particles
How can you measure temperature?
Thermometer
What is the difference between a chemical and physical change?
Chemical - Joining atoms together, cannot be reversed easily
Physical - Easy to reverse
What is specific heat capacity?
Amount of energy needed to heat up 1kg of a substance by 1 degree
What is specific latent heat?
Amount of energy needed to change the state of a substance without changing its temperature
How would you explain gas particles?
Free to move in random directions
When the particles collide with the walls of the container, what happens?
They exert a force on the container and bounce off
What is created when the force is exerted on the walls?
Pressure
What does total collisions depend on?
How many collisions and how much energy each collision involves
What factors affect pressure?
Temperature
Concentration
Volume
If the container is flexible, what will temperature and concentration change?
The volume of the container
