P3 - Particle Model of Matter Flashcards
1
Q
What is the equation that links density, mass and volume?
A
Mass (kg) = density (kg/m3) x volume (m3)
2
Q
What is the change of state called when you turn a solid into a gas?
A
Sublimating.
3
Q
How does heating a solid cause a change of state?
A
When the substance is heated enough - the particles will have enough energy in thier kinetic energy stores to break the bonds holding them togther forcing the substance to melt into a liquid.
4
Q
What is specific latent heat?
A
Specific latent heat is the energy needed to change the state of a substance without changing it’s temperature.
5
Q
How do you work out the specific latent heat of a substance?
A
Energy (j) = mass (kg) x specific latent heat (j/kg)
