P1 - Energy Flashcards
Name four types of energy stores.
Thermal, Kinetic, Gravitational Potential, Chemical, Electrostatic, Elastic Potential, Magnetic and Nucleur.
What is work done?
Work done is another way of saying energy transferred.
Describe the process of energy when a ball is thrown upwards.
Chemical energy store of the person’s arm, to the kinetic energy store of the ball as it goes upwards.
If an object’s energy store changes to kinetic, what will happen to the speed?
It will increase.
How do you find the kinetic energy of an object?
Kinetic energy = 1/2 x mass(kg) x velocity(m/s)2
How do you find the gravitational energy store of an object?
GPE = mass(kg) x gravitational field strength(N/kg) x height(m)
What happens to an object when it falls in terms of energy stores?
Energy lost from the GPE store = Energy gained in the kinetic energy store.
What is all types of energy measure in?
Joules (J)
What does specific heat capacity mean?
Specific heat capacity = the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance by 1oC
What is the equation that relates power, energy transferred and time?
energy transferred(j) = power(w) x time(s)
What is the formula for efficiency?
Useful output power/energy = Efficiency x total input power/energy
What is the formula for work done?
Work done = force x distance
What is the formula for efficiency?
Efficiency = useful energy output x 100
wasted input energy
