P3 - Particle Model Of Matter Flashcards
1
Q
Colliding gas particles to create pressure
A
- particles in gases are free to move around
- when they collide they exert a force on it
- the outward gas pressure is the total force exerted by all of the particles in the gas on a unit area of the container walls
2
Q
Increasing temperature of a gas to increase its pressure
A
- increase the temperature of a gas and transfer energy into the kinetic energy stores of its particles
- the higher the temperature, the higher the average speed of the particles
3
Q
Density equation
A
density = mass / volume
4
Q
density of a solid practical
A
- use a balance to measure its mass
regular solid - measure its length, width and height then calculate its volume
irregular solid - submerge it in a eureka can filled with water
- the water displaced will be transferred to the measuring cylinder
- volume in the measuring cylinder after the object is taken out is the volume.
5
Q
Specific Latent Heat
A
the amount of energy needed to change 1kg of it from one state to another without changing its temperature.
6
Q
SLH Equation
A
Energy = Mass x Specific Latent heat
