P3 Particle Model of Matter Flashcards
1
Q
What are the properties of liquids?
A
- Weaker forces of attraction between particles in irregular arrangements
- They move in random directions at low speeds
2
Q
What are the properties of solids?
A
- Strong forces of attraction hold the particles close together in a fixed, regular arrangement
- The particles vibrate around their fixed position
3
Q
What are the properties of gases?
A
- Almost no forces of attraction between the particles
- Particles move in random directions at high speeds
4
Q
How can you find the density of a solid object?
A
- Use a balance to measure the mass
- Measure length, width and height or a eureka can and find its volume
- Use volume and mass to find the density of the object
5
Q
What is the internal energy of an object?
A
Their total energy in their kinetic and potential energy stores
6
Q
What is the specific latent heat?
A
The energy needed for 1kg of a mass to change state
7
Q
What happens when gas particles collide?
A
They exert a force and so a pressure
8
Q
What happens if you change the pressure of a gas?
A
It makes the volume change
9
Q
What happens if you transfer energy to a gas?
A
You transfer energy into the kinetic energy stores of the gas particles, increasing the temperature
