What is the critical index?

The angle of incidence at which light emerges along the boundary of the material is called the critical angle.

How can critical angles be used?
A
It can be used in fibre optic cables such as endoscopes - they take some light there and bring it back. This allows surgery to be done with instruments attached to robots. The surgeon can see to control the instruments.
