2: Brokerage and Ideological

Common criticism…
EXAMPLES:
- Big tent party that aims to appeal to the widest group of voters, free of specialization or specific/strong ideology, beyond a focus on stability.
- tend to judge policy on how well it works, not who came put with the idea.(Pragmatic) and as such often have left and right elements.
- present a unified face to voters following in party debate.
Common Crit: can be seen as flip flopping on issues however they claim to be adjusting to changing times.

- Either a left or right ideology- not both- so completely opposite of brokerage.
- Sliding scale of extreme whereby those on the farthest left or right my argue with mid let or right about maintaining ideology and gaining power (more pragmatic)
- As such these parties are often criticized as ‘back sliding’ on issues to get elected, instead of focusing on shifting public opinion in their direction.
ex: Green party, Movement Party, etc

socialism, care for society through the creation of safety nets and social programs

capitalism, people are responsible for their own lives, less government involvement, people are less capable of meaningful contributions to the political process and are therefore left out of the process
