P2.1 Flashcards
What does insulator mean?
Materials that are poor electrical conductors
What does friction mean?
Energy losses caused by 2 or more objects rubbing together.
Lightening
Clouds build up charge and once it is large enough it jumps from one part of the cloud to another or the ground
earthing
places a metal conductor between the object and the earth, channelling charges safely to earthe
earthing lightening
lightening conducter at top of building induces postitive charge which repels other positive charges and neautraliss the negative charge
current
A flow of charged particles (electrons)
inseries
current is same voltage is shared
in parrallel
voltage is the same current is shared
resistance
how easy or diificult it is for an electric current to flow
pd equation
energy/charge
ldr
in light resistance is low and more current flows in dark resistance is high and less current flows.
thermister
high temp means resistance is low can switch on fan to cool laptop
heating effect
puts heat to good use in electric hearers but causes fires
velocity
speed in a direction, displacement/time
acceleration
change in velocity
