P2 - Forces and Elasticity (Hooke's Law) Flashcards
1
Q
What is Hooke’s Law?
A
When a weight is applied to a spring it extends. The amount it extends is proportional to the force added.
2
Q
How can you obtain the spring constant?
A
Calculate the gradient of a line.
3
Q
What is the limit of proportionality?
A
The point where the graph starts to change shape. You know this as the extension is no longer directly proportional to the force applied.
4
Q
Where is the extension from a spring measured to and from?
A
B to C.
