P2 Flashcards
Conduction
Conduction is the process where vibrating particles transfer energy to neighbouring particles
Thermal conductivity
Thermal conductivity of a metal refers to the rate at which it transfers heat energy
Insolation
Insolation is to reduce the amount of energy transfer across a material.
Infared Radiation - Energy from the Sun
Infared radiation and visible light are apart of the Electomagnetic Spectrum.
The sun emmites all types of electomagnetic radiation. Fortunatelly, the Earths atmosphere blocks most types.
Radiation and Surface Temperature
The higher the temperature of an object, the more infered radiation it emitts in a given time.
An object that has a constant temperature emits radiation across a continuous range of wavelengths.
What is Secific Heat Capacity
The Specific Heat of a substance is the energy needed to rais the temperature of 1Kg of a substance by ! degrees centigrade.
Specific Heat Capacity equation
enrgy transfered = mass x secific heat capacity x temperature change
