P14 (Light) Flashcards
Convex Lens
- bulges outwards
- rays of light comes together
Concave Lens
- caves inwards
- rays spread out
3 rules for refraction in a Convex Lens
1) incident ray parallel to the axis refracts through lens and passes
to principle focus on other side
2) Incident ray through principle focus travels through lens parallel to the axis
3) An incident ray passing through the centre carries on in the same direction
3 rules for refraction in a Concave Lens
1) Incident ray parallel to the axis refracts through lens and travels in line with the principle focus
2) Incident ray passing through lens towards principle focus refracts through lens parallel to the axis
3) An incident ray through the centre carries on in the same direction
Real Image
When light comes together to form an image on the screen
Virtual Image
- When the rays diverge so the light appears to come from a different place
- virtual image
3 things to say when describing an image
1) how big compared to the object
2) Wether it is upright of inverted compared to the relative objecg
3) real or virtual
Magnifying Glasses
- magnified virtual image
- meaning light rays don’t come from place where they appear to be
