P1 year 9 Flashcards
Efficiency?
Useful output/total output
Gravitational potential energy?
Mass(kg) x gravitational field strength(Earth=10N/kg) x height(m)
Kinetic energy?
1/2 mass(kg) x velocity(m/s)^2
Elastic potential energy?
0.5 x k(constant)(N/m) x e^2
Work done (j)?
Force(N) x distance(m)
Power (W)?
Energy (J) / time (s)
Energy stores?(8)
Kinetic, gpe, chemical, thermal, light, elastic potential, electrostatic , nuclear
Energy pathways? (4)
Heating, electrical (current), physical(work), electromagnetic (radiation)
Renewable resources?(5)
Geothermal, wind, waves, solar, biofuel
Non renewable resources?(2)
Nuclear, fossil fuels
What is geothermal?
Energy resource which requires using heat from hot rockets in the earths crust to create energy.
What is biofuel?
Energy from living matter
What is energy dissipation?
When wasted energy dissipates into the environment
What is the difference between the greenhouse effect and global warming?
The greenhouse effect is the earths natural process of warming up the earth using gases and global warming is when there is excess gases
What are the downsides to fossil fuels
Releases carbon dioxide ( climate change) sulphur dioxide (acid rain) and nitrogen oxide (lung)
