what is culture?
system of behaviours and beliefs of a society or group
what are norms?
expected pattern of behaviour and beliefs of a society or group most people will follow naturally.
what are values?
believes and ideas society sees as important. they are accepted by the majority of society and tend o be things we believe in.
what is the Hamar Tribe?
culture that is rich in ceremony and ritual, to get to adulthood males must perform a ceremony where they leap into the backs of cattle and run across them.
the women are whipped before this to prove their devotion to males
what is mead’s study of primitive societies
she found the differences in role allocations in Samoa and New Guinea
what is intercultural diversity?
diversity seen between cultures
what is intracultual diversity?
diversity within cultures
what is high culture?
product and activities that are seen as high status. e.g theatre, classical music, ballet.
what is popular culture?
enjoyed by majority of society . e.g TV, magazines, cinemas, playing football
what is consumer culture?
shopping is the main focus, culture which revolves around the consumption of goods and acitvities.
what is global culture?
brands, food, films that are identical across many different countries, linked to globalisation as the world is becoming more interconnected. e.g Microsoft, nike, coca-cola.
what are the different aspects of secondary socialisation?
peers, education, media, religion and workplace.
