plywood
-Thin layer of wood glued at 90degrees and compressed
-good strength in all direction
- no grain weakness
- has a odd number of layers
uses: structural work, desktops, indoor furniture, floorboards
marine plywood
-similar to plywood but is gap and valid free
-uses water and boil-proof glue
-provides resistance to moisture
-some high-quality marine plywood is resistant to fungal attack
uses: boat dashboard, boat lockers and panelling
Aeroply
-available in thin sheets, lightweight
-easy to bend around a support frame
users: gliders, laminated furniture, laser cut projects, jewellery
Flexible plywood
-odd numbers of layers glued together with Z outer layers made from open-grained timber
-allows the sheet to flex
-bent and glued around a former to achieve a solid shape
uses: laminated furniture, curved panels
chip board
-wood chips compressed with resin such as UF
-often veneered or covered with polymer laminate
-kitchen worktops and units
-shelving and flat-pack furniture
MDF
-is compressed wood fibres
-UF is added additional resin sometimes
-has 2 smooth faces
-available in standard grade
uses: model or mould making, furniture items
