P1 Flashcards
What is chemical energy store
It includes fuels, food or chemicals in batteries. The energy’s transferred during a chemical reaction
What is kinetic energy stores
Describes energy of a moving object
What is gravitational energy store
Describes energy if an object above ground level
What is thermal energy stores
Describes the energy of a substance because of its temperature
What’s the conservation of energy
A closed system means the energy is the same before and after energy transfer. This is a conservation of energy
How is energy transferred through a moving pendulum
The pendulum moves to the middle and energy is transferred through the force of gravity due to its gravitational potential energy.
As the pendulum moves to the middle the kinetic energy store decreases and it’s gravitational potential energy store increases if air resistance is small
The ball will meet the same height as the other side
What’s the time of energy
It can it be created or destroyed
What is work done
When an objects moved by a force, work is done by the force so the force transfers energy to the object
What is the equation to work out ‘work done’
Work done=force applied(N) x distance moved(m)
How can you calculate work done by a pulling force (3)
Drag a small box a measured distance on a rough surface
Repeat with 2 bands around the box
Repeat for better results
How do you work out change in gravitational potential energy
Change is GPE=weight(N) x change in height(M)
How do you work out change of gravitational potential energy
Change of GPE=mass(M) x gravitational field strength(N/KG) x change in height(M)
How do you work out kinetic energy
Kinetic energy=1/2 x mass x speed(2)
How do you work out elastic potential energy
EPE=1/2 x springs constant(N/M) x extension(2)
What is the energy you a supply to the motor per seconds
It’s the power supplied to it
