Oxygen Therapy Standard Flashcards
1
Q
What does a pt’s SPO2 level need to be at?
A
92-96%
2
Q
What kind of pt’s require high oxygen concentration?
A
- confirmed or suspected carbon monoxide or cyanide toxicity or noxious gas exposure
- upper airway burns
- scuba diving related disorders
- ongoing cardiopulmonary obstruction
- sickle cell anemia with suspected vaso occlusive crisis
3
Q
What do we do to the oxygen with dyspnea, a decreased LOC, an altered mental status and or suffered major trauma, COPD patients?
A
titrate oxygen to achieve an oxygen saturation of 88-92%
re assess vitals every 10 mins
maintain O2 flow rate at that level, if pt improves, increase oxygen y increments of 2L/min above starting level
if pt condition worsens, be prepared to ventilate
4
Q
What are critical findings that you would be giving high concentration oxygen to?
A
- age specific hypotension
- resp distress
- cyanosis, ashen colour, pallor
- altered LOC
- abnormal pregnancy or labour
