What are the different body systems that can be affected by an allergic reaction?
respiratory
cardiovascular
neurological
gastrointestinal
dermatological /mucosal
What are a few respiratory symptoms?
dyspnea
wheezing
stridor
hoarse voice
What are cardiovascular symptoms?
tachycardia
or hypotension/shock
What are neurological symptoms?
dizziness
confusion
or LOC
What are GI symptoms?
nausea
vomiting
abdo cramps
diarrhea
What are dermatological symptoms?
facial
orolingual
generalized swelling, flushing, urticaria
Consider historical findings as evidence of suspected anaphylaxis as follows:
- difficulty swallowing/tightness in the throat
- difficulty breathing/feeling of suffocation
- fearfulness, anxiety, agitation, confusion, or feeling of doom
- generalized itching
- hx of any of the body system involvement listed above ^^^^
What should you prepare for in potential problems?
- cardiac arrest
- airway obstruction
- anaphylaxis
- bronchospasm
- hypotension
