Oxygen Therapy Flashcards
What normal spo2 is acceptable?
92-96%
Management for paraquat and bleomycin poisoning
Prophylactic hypoxaemia 85-88%
Mx for mild-moderate hypoxaemia 85-91%
2-6L via NP
Consider simple face mask 5-10L
Mx for severe hypoxaemia spo2 <85% or critical illnesses
10-15L via NRB
When haemodynamically stable titrate to spo2 92-96%
If deteriorates or spo2 remains <85% BVM with 100% O2 and consider SGA
Critical illnesses for O2 (7)
Cardiac arrest or resus Major trauma/head injury Shock Severe sepsis Anaphylaxis Status epilepticus Ketamine sedation
Chronic hypoxia conditions (6)
COPD Neuromuscular disorders Cystic fibrosis Bronchiectasis Severe kyphoscokiosis Obesity
Mx for chronic hypoxaemia
Titrate to spo2 88-92%
If no critical illness present 2-6L via NP
Consider face mask 5-10L
If deteriorates or spo2 remains <85% Mx as per severe hypoxaemia
Who gets 10-15L via NRB regardless of spo2? (6)
Toxic inhalation exposure Decompression illness Cord prolapse PPH Shoulder dystocia Cluster headache
When to suspect a pt has COPD
Over 40 who smokes/ex-smoker, progressive dyspnoea, chronic cough/sputum production, family Hx COPD
