Oxygen Therapy Flashcards
Nasal cannula flow and FiO2, variable or fixed?
1-6 l/min, 24-45%
variable performance
Simple mask flow and FiO2, variable or fixed?
6-10 l/min, 40-60%
variable performance
Aerosol mask flow, variable or fixed?
6-8 l/min
variable performance
Partial re-breather mask flow and FiO2, variable or fixed?
10-15 l/min, 50-70%
variable performance
Non rebreathing flow and FiO2, variable or fixed?
10-15 l/min, 70-90%
variable performance
*ensure bag is atlas 50% inflated during inspiration and inflated before you put it on
why is at least 6 l/min needed with simple mask?
To clear out the CO2 (prevent rebreathing)
Define “low flow device”
when the device flow is less than the patient’s inspiratory demand, thus FiO2 will be variable
Define” high flow device”
when the device flow is greater than or equal to the patient’s inspiratory flow demand, thus FiO2 will be fixed
LVN flow, FiO2, variable or fixed?
15 l/min to flush, 33-100%, fixed
Optiflow flow, FiO2, variable or fixed?
20-60 l/min, 35-100%, fixed
Airvo flow, FiO2, variable or fixed?
20-60 l/min, 21-95%, fixed
