Q

Galvanic fuel cell

A

O2 passes through the teflon membrane–> O2 + H2O makes OH- in the negative electrode–> OH- travels to (+) electrode–> OH- is oxidized –> generates an electrical curent that is measured is proportional to partial pressure of O2 not %

Q

Polargraphic fuel cell

A

Relies on the same process as galvanic fuel cells but the electrical current is proportional to partial pressure and displayed as O2%

Q

How is pulse measured?

A

periodic measurement of absorbance during systole and diastole. Less transmittance during systole bc of inc blood flow while there’s and increased transmittance during diastole

Q

Pulse oxymeter limimtations

A
  • room lighting
  • nail polish or intravascular dyes
  • Perfusion
  • diminished accuracy below 80%
  • can’t detect hypoxemia
  • dysHb
  • pressence of carboxyHb and metHb
  • pigmented skin
