  • Caused by low weight, eating disorders, heavy exercise, chronic disease
  • GnRH pulsatility is low or absent → low FSH / LH → low estrogen
  • Ovulation does not occur, so progesterone is low as well
  • Treat the underlying condition.

A

Need at least 2/3: acne / hirsuitism, oligo / anovulation, and polycystic ovaries.

3 treatments for infertility w/ PCOS

A
  • Clomiphene / Letrozole
  • Weight loss / meformin - decrease insulin and androgen production.
  • Exogenous gonadotropins are used if above don’t work.

  • Adult onset
  • Looks exactly like PCOS: irregular menses, hirsutism, infertility. Men may not have any sxs.
  • Treat w/ exogenous glucocorticoids and steroids to suppress adrenal androgen production and thus induce ovulation.
