Q

What happens to the ELACs if all ADIRS were lost?

A

“We lose ELAC functions” - GACA answer

If all ADRs are lost, ELACS trigger NAV ADR DISAGREE ECAM caution.

Flight controls revert to alternate law without high or low-speed protection. The situation is latched until ELACs are reset on the ground.
The ADIRS supply information to the ELACs so some parts of the ELACs may be lost but no clear statement says the ELAC functions are lost.

Flyadeal A320 also does not have FASTEN SEAT BELT auto switch.

However, if there was an auto switch, the signs would illuminate when Landing gear down OR flaps/slats extended.

If cabin altitude exceeded 11,300ft (+/- 350ft), the signs would come on (except the NO PORTABLE ELEC DEVICE signs) regardless of position. If we had NO SMOKING signs, they would also come on.

A

The pressurization system uses the FMGS data to construct an optimized pressurization schedule.

FCOM/DSC/21/20/40/OVERHEAD PANEL

116
Q

When out of the AUTO position, what is different?

A

The pressurization system uses the manually selected landing elevation (-2000ft to 14,000ft)

note: The LDG ELEV knob scale is only given as an indication; refer to the ECAM information for accurate adjustment.

FCOM/DSC/21/20/40/OVERHEAD PANEL

117
Q

What depressurizes the aircraft in case of residual pressure after landing? How does it work?

A

Residual pressure control unit (RPCU), it automatically opens outflow valve when:
• Outflow valve not fully open, and
• Both CPCs are failed, or manual mode is selected, and
• Aircraft on ground, and
• All engines are shutdown or all ADIRS indicate airspeed below 100 kts.

FCOM/DSC/21/20/20/RESIDUAL PRESSURE CONTROL UNIT (RPCU)

118
Q

What protects the airframe from excessive cabin differential pressure?

A

2 independent pressure safety valves stop the cabin pressure going too high (8.6 PSI above ambient) or too low (1 PSI below ambient)

FCOM/DSC/21/20/20/SAFETY VALVES

119
Q

How many motors does the outflow valve have?

3 – One for each automatic controller and one for manual control.

FCOM/DSC/21/20/20/OUTFLOW VALVE

120
Q

What is the ABORT mode in auto cabin pressurization and what does it do?

A

If the aircraft does not climb after takeoff, the abort mode prevents the cabin altitude from climbing. Cabin pressure is set back to the takeoff altitude +0.1 PSI

FCOM/DSC/21/20/30/AUTOMATIC PRESSURE CONTROL MODE

121
Q

What monitors and controls the pneumatic system?

A

Two Bleed Monitoring Computers (BMC 1 &BMC 2) control and monitor the operation of the pneumatic system.

The aircraft has 2 similar bleed air systems.
Each system is designed to:
- select the compressor stage to use as a source of air
- regulate the bleed temperature
- regulate the bleed air pressure

Each BMC receives information about the bleed pressure, temperature and valve position.

FCOM/DSC/36/10/20/GENERAL

122
Q

If one BMC fails, can the other take over?

A

If one BMC fails, the adjacent BMC takes over the monitoring of the bleed system to issue the following ECAM warnings if necessary:

  • Overpressure
  • Overtemperature
  • Wing Leak

Nevertheless, the associated FAULT light on the AIR COND panel is lost, and the associated bleed valve does not close automatically.

ENG BLEED LEAK warning is lost for the associated engine, as is also the APU BLEED LEAK warning is BMC1 has failed.

FCOM/DSC/36/10/60/BMC FAILURE

A

The GND unit temperature and pressure are indicated on the ECAM BLEED PRECOOLER #1

No FCOM reference available

124
Q

When is HI flow rate automatically selected regardless of the Pack Flow selector switch position?

A
  • Single pack operation

FCOM/DSC/21/10/40/GENERAL

139
Q

Describe how the air conditioning system controls the temperature in each zone.

FCOM/PRO/ABN/NAV/NAV ADR 1+2(1+3)(2+3) FAULT/NAV ADR 1+2+3 FAULT

Good to know:
Loss of ADR 1 leads to loss of EGPWS
Loss of ADR 2 leads to both Baro reference channels driven by the same FCU channel, so they should be checked.
Loss of 2 ADR leads to alternate law.
Loss of ADR 1+3 leads to landing gear safety valve controlled closed. It must be lowered by gravity extension.
Loss of all ADR is ECAM NAV ADR 1+2+3 fault. Complete ECAM then QRH ALL ADR OFF paper checklist. Most notable is CPC must be manually controlled, alternate law, and gravity gear extension. Of lesser concern is the loss of stall warning, rudder travel limiter is frozen until slat extension, and loss of auto flap retraction.
