Policy versus Planning
Policy is more about the vision or value that is set as a goal
planning is the step by step outline that is made up in order to achieve that goal.
Assessing Tourism Policies
o Are the outcomes reliable? (Intended or unintended)
o How are you measuring (Quantitative or Qualitative)
o Four approaches

Goals of Tourism Planning
o To maximize the benefits to stakeholder while reducing and minimizing any negative impacts.
o Improve visitor satisfaction and the success of businesses and the economy. Sustainably use the limited recourses and ensure community integration (that locals voices are heard)
the differences between levels in Strategic Planning
- Mission – an overall plan on how you will reach set goals
- Strategies – methods of using the mission to reach goals
- Goals – objectives that need to be reached to use the strategy
- Objective – specific actions done within a certain time frame to reach goals
