General tips for “outside the box” questions
Don’t take yourself too seriously
Try to have fun with answers
Interviewer trying to determine what makes you “cool” and sets you apart from others
What animal/vegetable would you be?
Be creative and say something you can tie back to your personality.
Ex. Hedgehog –> spiky on the outside but warm and fuzzy on the inside
If your name turns up in a headline in the front page one day, what would it say?
Display some banker-like attributes but not too much
Talk about something that shows ambition + creativity + coolness
Something like scaling Everest, becoming an NYT bestselling author, or selling your company in an IPO
Tell me a joke
Two antennas met on a roof and decided to get married. The wedding wasn’t much but the reception was great.
What’s your personal Beta?
Probably around 1.5. I’m ambitious and want to achieve more than the average person, which involves taking more risks to try new things and achieve more. But I’m still pretty moderate and don’t take careless risks.
What’s the riskiest thing you’ve ever done?
Probably taking on a project manager role at my consulting club. It was something I wasn’t expecting to get, and choosing to do it was a calculated risk that I thought would be worth the benefits. I ended up getting a lot out of the experience and learning a lot about myself through it.
If you had $1 million, but not allowed to invest it or use it to create more money, what would you spend it on.
I would probably spend it towards furthering my own interests and those of people near to me. I’d try to pay off my parents’ mortgage, get an extra degree or two, and perhaps buy a nice car.
