Outriggers Flashcards
What are outriggers?
Devices that give stability
Transfer centre of gravity
Widen the footprint of the apparatus
Prevents tip over
Outrigger types
The two most common are H style and A style
Currently all outriggers used by CFD are the H style.
Two designs of the H style - Box type which have the cylinders enclosed in a welded box frame
Cylinder type which have the hydraulic cylinder rod exposed
Outrigger ground melting
Due to pressure and friction, outriggers melt ice
Be sure to scrape away all ice and snow before outriggers are deployed
Placement and set up obstacles
Parked cars or other apparatus
Trees and curbs
Avoid setting up on manholes, sidewalks, sewer drains, above under ground parkades, and electrical vaults
