Positioning…

A

Unless otherwise directed, the first aerial should be positioned in front of the building
Try to work off the rear and hit two sides of the building
On a large building, the second aerial should be setup at the rear of the building to reach the two sides the first aerial cannot reach

A

Ladder positioned for egress; tip should be accessible and as close to Cres as possible
Ladder positioned to the roof; should be an easy transition - 5 ft past the roof line
Ladder should be made known to the crews performing the work

A

Secondary means of egress via ladders should be set up as soon as possible
If working off the side of the aerial align your turntable with the objective
If a victim is positioned at a window and is in danger this takes priority over all other aerial functions

Rescue

A

Generally, the preferential order for removing victims is interior stairs, horizontal exits, fire escapes, ladders.

Removing a victim with aerial

A

Pinpoint victim and reassure
Observe the building for other victims
Prepare for rapid ascent while ladder is being extended
Two firefighters climb the ladder, one enters the building to assist the victim on to the ladder while the other firefighter assists the victim on to the ladder. Ask about other victims.
To descend with victim, position yourself one rung below victim and descend in unison. Encourage them not to look down and focus on descending. If victim panics, take control of situation and reassure.
