Master Streams Flashcards
Master Streams
Defensive ops
Use only when all crews are out of the structure and accounted for
Water Tower Guidelines
Avoid sudden movements with nozzle
Never direct streams at power lines
44mm smooth bore is the largest tip used on CFD aerials
Never leg lock on an aerial
Avoid directing the stream perpendicular whenever possible
Dangers of master streams
Weight of water introduced to the structure
Think of building collapse
Monitor runoff - be aware of ice formation
Note the time master stream was started and flow rate to track water introduced to structure
Fog vs Solid Streams
Fog Stream
greater heat absorption
wider coverage
can be used for hydraulic vent
good for exposure protection
Solid Stream
less affected by wind and heat
better reach and penetration
larger volume of water
Using an aerial as an elevated master stream
Ladders have a 65mm port that can be used as a standpipe
Can save time, reduce friction loss and avoid long stairway lays
Be sure to close the master stream nozzle prior to charging the standpipe
