  • self fulfilling prophecy may contribute to the formation because teachers create a label based on percieved abilities and non academic factors e.g. social class background and gender
  • label is then compared to the preconcieved idea of the ideal pupil, contrated, hard working and listens
  • teachers give more praise and encouregement to these pupils and conveys to other students how they need to act
