Outcome Measures Flashcards
Parkinson’s Disease
Universal Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale
- assesses ability to perform functional tasks
Pastor’s Test
- tests ability to resist postural perturbance
TUG - general mobility and balance
Multiple Sclerosis
Expanded Disability Status Scale - quantifies disability in MS, by assessing disability in 8 functional systems
use outcome measure specific to the location of their lesion and their symptoms
Guillian Barre Syndrome
Assess function - timed functional tasks, TUG
Assess balance
Assess strength - Oxford Grading Scale
Vestibular Impairments
Fukuda test - identifies unilateral dysfunction
Sensory integration testing - has vestibular specific section
Dynamic gait testing
Other balance measures
Balance
Trunk impairment scale - good for sitting balance Step test - dynamic, single leg stance Berg Balance Scale - from sit to stand to standing balance, to more complex tasks Timed Up and Go test - dynamic Functional Reach - dynamic Romberg - static Sensory integration test - variety Dynamic Gait Index HiMAT - high level balance and mobility
UL Function
9-Hole peg test - arm and hand dexterity, repeated timed task
Wolf motor function test - time based joint specific and whole arm movement
Action Research arm test - observe various tasks
Manual Ability Measure (MAM-16) - measure manual ability, 16 functionally relevant tasks
Gait/Mobility
temporal and distances measures (velocity, stride length, cadence)
dynamic gait index - high level patients
TUG - good for less able patients, simple
HiMAT - high level patients, balance and mobility
Stroke (Cortical Injury)
Ritchie Articular Index - assesses shoulder pain
Motor Assessment Scale - cortical injury only, more functional, hemiplegic specific
CMII - variety of cortical injuries, more time consistent, people more complicated than just hemiplegic
Fugl-Myer test of upper and lower extremity function
Cerebellar Injury
Scale for the assessment and rating of ataxia - evaluation of motor function in cerebellar disorders
Impairment specific
Timed functional tasks
Perceptual Injury
Pusher Rating Scale 3 = severe 2 = moderate 1 - mild 0 - non
Perceptual Screening/Assessment
Cognition
Short portable mental status questionnaire - measure of cognition
Glasgow Coma Scale - measure of levels of consciousness. Assesses according to eye opening, motor responses and verbal responses
Spasticity
Tardieu Scale - measure of spasticity
0 = no resistance throughout passive movement
1 = slight resistance throughout passive movement, no clear catch
2 = clear catch at precise angle, followed by release
3 = fatigable clonus, at precise angle, occurs less than 10 seconds
4 = non-fatigable clonus, at precise angle, occurs more than 10 seconds
Australian Spasticity Scale - extension of Tardieu scale, paediatric specific
0 - no catch on rapid passive movement (RPM)
1 - catch occurs with RPM followed by release, no resistance throughout remainder of range
2 - catch occurs second half of range during RPM, followed by resistance
3 - catch occurs first half range during RPM, resistance throughout remaining range
4 - with RPM, body apart appears to be fixed, but can move with slow movement
Spinal Cord Injury
Standard Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury
