What is food security
Exist when all people, at all times, have physical, social, and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy lifestyle
Food insecurity
Exists when people do not have adequate physical, social or economic access to food
Causes of global insecurity
Natural disasters, unstable food market, poverty, production of biofuels, food wastage, war and displacement
Food equity
Food equity refers to communities that are not restricted in resources, income, knowledge and a variety of healthy foods in their area. Food equity occurs because communities do have access to high quality foods
Food inequity
Food Inequity. Food inequity refers to communities with limitations in resources and income, are often not informed about the knowledge and variety of healthy foods in their area. Food equity occurs because certain communities do not have access to high quality foods. Food inequity is a global issue.
Effects of food inequity
Under nutrition, over nutrition, political stability

Food inequity can result inadequate intake of nutritious food. This can cause malnutrition which is associated with disease and premature death.

Wealth enables people to consume far more kilojoules than required for good health. This poor nutritional intake can result in obesity and chronic disease
As countries become more developed traditional diet high in fruits veggies and cereals are supplemented with meat and dairy products. High consumption of salt, sugar and fat a typical over nutrition that leads to chronic disease
Political instability
Conflicts over the control of land occur when there is political instability. This threatens food production and security.
Rising food prices cause by natural disasters, political decisions or crop failures leads to food in equity that results in violence and unrest. This causes political instability when population is pressure governments for relief

Access to continuous and safe water
Availability of safe and nutritious food
