Causes?
A
- infection: bacterial (Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) or fungal
- seborrhoeic dermatitis
- contact dermatitis (allergic and irritant)

Symptoms?
A
- ear pain, itch, discharge
* otoscopy: red, swollen, or eczematous canal

Management?
A
Topical antibiotic or a combined topical antibiotic with a steroid.

If the tympanic membrane is perforated, what antibiotics are not used?
A
Aminoglycosides

Management if there is canal debris?
A
Consider removal

Management if canal is extensively swollen?
A
An ear wick is sometimes inserted

What if the patient fails to respond to topical antibiotics?
A
Patient should be referred to ENT
