Q

Why has consolidation been a challenge in the US wine market?

A
  1. Distributors decreased but wineries increased. Products get lost.
  2. Distributor sales force reduces control over marketing and B2B selling
  3. Large companies benefit - conglomerates (who are buying smaller wineries) and distributors
  4. While smaller producers can seek out specialist distributors, tend to be more limited and contracts hard to break
  5. While consolidation led to to more D2C there are associated costs & need to comply with laws by state
